Michael Moore’s 2004 documentary critique of President George W. Bush - Fahrenheit 9/11 , is once again churning up the shit. Yesterday Moore filed suit against Bob and Harvey Weinstein, who through their specially formed Fellowship Adventure Group distributed “Fahrenheit 9/11” in conjunction with Lionsgate and IFC Films, Moore is claiming that the Weinsteins defrauded him of at least $2.7 million from the film. The suit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claims that the Weinsteins with “accounting tricks and financial deception” in connection with “Fahenheit 9/11,” which took in about $222 million at the worldwide box office, and millions more on home video. Bert Fields, a lawyer for the Weinsteins, said Mr. Moore had been paid everything he was due, and was trying to make a public spectacle out of what he called “a routine kind of auditing” dispute. “Mr. Moore has put in a number of very inflammatory claims designed for the press,” Mr. Fields added. “He should be ashamed of himself.” Larry Stein, a lawyer for Mr. Moore, declined to elaborate on Monday’s filing. Mr. Moore and the Weinsteins have worked together on several films, including “Sicko” and “The Big One.”
